There will be a good turnout at the State Duma election in December, believes head of the Central Electoral Commission Vladimir Churov. According to polls carried out at the end of August, fifty per cent of Russians would come to vote if the election were held this Sunday. Churov said that this would not be a bad result. He added that Russia could not have a one-party parliament. If 60 per cent of votes go to just one party, then [of the remaining parties] the party that received the most support from voters yet failed to cross the seven per cent threshold would enter parliament.

Churov said that for the first time, a hotline would be in operation in Russia on election day. The CEC [ЦИК] is checking regional polling stations already.

In addition, a number of CEC specialists are travelling to more regions this week and next week for joint work with the Federal Migration Service [!!!] to revise the [electoral] lists. That will also be among my goals when I myself go to the Far Eastern Federal District on 19 [September].

[At 0941 gmt on the same day, ITAR-TASS cited Churov as saying that well-known Live Journal bloggers Inna Smbatyan and Samson Sholademi [are they really well known?] would help the CEC extend its links with the internet community. It has been proposed to set up a website linked to Live Journal, "which will provide information about the election, and election campaign as a whole, in a language that is easy to understand," Sholademi and Smbatyan are quoted as saying.]
